I was in agreement with all of my sources for the most part.
The one thing I disagreed with was in the journal published by the American
Association of Pediatrics. “Researchers have proposed a new phenomenon called
‘Facebook Depression,’ defined as depression that develops when preteens and
teens spend a great deal of time on social media sites such as Facebook, and
then begin to exhibit classic symptoms of depression.” There is no such thing
as “Facebook depression.” It’s called being addicted to Facebook or any other
social media website. Well-qualified researchers and doctors came up with this,
but it seems to me like a computer addiction problem. If the person was being
cyber-bullied, I can see that as “Facebook Depression” or just depression.
I can
see how some people may become slightly depressed because of Facebook. Pictures
of other girls may make another girl envious, think she isn’t pretty enough,
not thin enough. To call the is “Facebook Depression” seem slightly ridiculous
and unprofessional.
From this entry I have learned that through spending too much time on the computer and on facebook teens are now showing more symptoms of depression and other mental disorders that I did not know about proir to reading this blog. I also didnt know that doctors were trying to even go as far as coming up with a name for it and calling it "Facebook Depression." In my opinion tha is ridiculous and it made a good argument for what you are trying to argue for. In this entry you did a good job of showing both sides of the argument but then making it obvious as to which one that you really felt was more reasonable. A few suggestions that I would give you would be to use more research throughout your blogs and to find a way to show the reader exactly which side that you are on and what the question is that you are answering.

In this entry, I learned that people believe Facebook can cause depression if teenagers spend too much time on it. Maybe you could talk about personal experiences with Facebook and if it makes you feel depressed. I think you are right about there not being a "Facebook depression". This is a good start, maybe add more research to your entry to make it longer and more informative.
ReplyDeleteI have learned some believe the excessive usage of social networking sites can cause symptoms like depression and vulnerability. You did a good job and showing the side that opposes your current opinion, but at the same time mentioning that you don't completely agree with it. Something you could switch up would be to, like Rebecca said, add a quote or add a source to make it more informative.
